If Hanahan wrestles like they did against Loris, it will be a tall order for Chesnee.

well how about tell us a little about Chesnee then......who have they wrestled this year? who have they beat of note? other than Broome or Crescent who we also know nothing about.....Crescent should be pretty good they have a good coach in Anthony Martin. The only thing I know about Chesnee is that Dustin Martin and the Horton kid are pretty good, other than that they are relatively unknown to me and we travel alot.

martin will weigh in to go 35, he went 35 against crescent....chesnee is solid at 3,12,19,25,30..all young kids, hanahan should win at 3,12,19, 25 and 30 will go either way...chesnee 30 watch for the hip toss thats all he knows but he does it well....chesnee ok at 52,60,71...but hanahan should win here...89 is good but beatable, go smash mouth...215 and 285 if hanahan is somewhat good here they will win these 2. Hanahan will win by 30 unless they come out over confident....hope hanahan beats them worse than loris....chesnee kids need a reality check b4 individuals, so they wont be so disappointed the following weekend also....go cheezzzzzneee....lol...owe cheezedogs 40 is solid...

Congrats to Ha for the win but as i watched the match i couldnt belive how horrible the wrestling was bettween these to team 11 pins in the state finals? and im convinced that the only move HA knows is a Bulldog or M80 or whatever they call it there and CH the hip toss....on another note 1a accutally had alot better wrestling than 2a as well but compared to 3a and 4a its pathatic

truth is there were no good teams compared to years past. I was there all day and it looked like all very average teams. Nothing looked like the old Eastside, Chesterfield, Rock Hill, Summerville, teams of the past. Hillcrest, West Oak, and Chapin were all slightly above average teams. The rest were average or below.

When you say state finals, remember these were team state finals. Not individuals. Big difference. Are these teams super high quality? No. Do they have some solid individuals? Yes. That is just where SC is. Fort D's team last year was a good team. This year....Things do seem watered down. A lot of good talent graduated last year. This time last year, we heard about a lot of kids signing already to go wrestle at different places. This year.....crickets.

As for Hanahan, you are right. For crying out loud, you would think someone would realize they are going to og for the Cement mixer/snake/bulldog/etc all day. Not to say they aren't good with it, but that would not work against technically sound wrestlers. I have seen them give up good position and sneek out to the front to force the cement mixer. Good luck with that against anyone outside of the area. That just shows who they are used to wrestling. Same for the other schools and the hip tosses and such.

I don't know that the 1a schools were better. I just think the school Hanahan wrestled was very overmatched. 1a and 2a were definitely weak this year.

See how guys do at individuals though. Remember, a lot of 1a and 2a schools have to just fill the blanks at some weights.

How on gods green earth could u put down a team that has only been in existence for 3 years. Chesnee has 1 wrestler that has wrestled before the program was started. The match would have been closer if chesnee gets the coin toss. (still lose tho) Hanahan made the right move..they let Boykin first year wrestler and bumped Hancock away from Martin. They sent a fish out at 140 and his only job was to do the superfish and not get pinned. He did his job by only getting majored. Whitmire throws Brule to his back but was too high and got rolled and caught in a bad situation. Ches jv 171 gets pinned. 103 119 130 win with ease.

3 SR's 112 140 152
11 starters come back. Scary numbers huh

Our 140 just got a pin against Loris, but his only job against a less difficult opponent is to be a fish.
I swear the ignorance and lack of thought by some people is terrible!

Hawk fans
First of all thank you for your support at state and the last couple of years. Most of you come on this site for a good laugh and that is really the only thing it good for. Realize that we will always have haters. People will always talk trash. Thats part of sports. Like observers post we win and in a nut shell because everbody was having a down year and we are not that good. Oh well, cant win them all over. Sorry observer I wont be able to read any more of your dumb*ss comments cause my ring will put a bad glare on the screen.

hey coach, couldn't resist. put the photos on your door step . the pics of a team that just won the state championship. we have great, smart and very wrestling savvy fans. This is a great opportunity to delete this site from my "favorites" bar. Ignorance will prevail here.
To all the coaches, best of luck.
This was a great year

I wasnt putting the teams down just the leval of compin 1a and 2a as a whole its just not there and i would have to disagree with you observer some of the 3a and 4a teams this year could easily compete with any previous champions very solid team...they may not be 2010 fort D lvl but i would put them well above slighlty above avg

CONGRATS to,
Bamberg
Our guys
West Oak
Hillcrest
on their wins. Just cause the mighty Chesterfeild,Eastside, and Fort Dorchester couldnnot pull it off all in the same year, dont let people tell you that thats and indicator that the entire state was down this year. Unless they have been under a rock, everybody knew that Hanahan and Bamberg were getting better by the day, and Hillcrest and West Oak have always been good. Yall deserve everything that yall have worked for.
Again, CONGRATS STATE CHAMPIONS, in all classes!!!!!!!!

Everyone that won a dual team titile deserves their just due.
Remember that Dual state championship is a team title. Each team will have hammers and then respective role players. It is very difficult for a small school to fill out 14 beasts. I don't think that saying the champions are weak because a team dual title is not an all star match at every weight is fair. As for saying it is a down year. That probablay depends on the team. Obviously not for the champs!

1a-Bamberg has really stepped up the last couple of years. Their coach puts together a blistering schedule to get their young guns up to snuff lately. Since I have been in SC, they had made a huge jump in the last couple of years with Coach Slaughter. Whether it is a coincidence or not, they made a quantum leap the last couple of years. I had always considered them one of those "headlock" teams until last year that may have athletes and pull off a few wins, but could never compete with the best. After last year, anyone with a brain knew they were going to be a force. Good job Bamberg

2a-Hanahan has also come a long way in the last few years. They deserve their due as well. They too used to be percieved as a team that may have a few athletes here and there, but never a real threat to any team w decent technique. You just can't say that anymore. People can take shots at their technique, schedule, coaches, whatever. They won. They must have done something right. If you go to a home dual at Hanahan, it all becomes clear:
1-They get TREMENDOUS community and school support. Heck, their principle is usually at the door greeting people as they come in! SHE is a true testament to the support system the Hawks have. Heck, they got a police escort to the state dual championship this past weekend. How cool was that for those kids (You know CH must have been sweating haha).
2-Not only do they schedule multiple teams for their home duals to make the most out of them, but they also have three mats out at a time. One for Varsity. One for jv matches. And one for middle school matches. Building the pipeline is a HUGE factor in developing a solid team. They get kids involved and loyal to the school at an early age. Same with the fans. You can go to any dual there and see fans whose kids have been out of wrestling for years...
As for the cement mixers.....I don't stress that move personally, but everyone knows it is coming against Hanahan and they still hit it. Just like Brandon HS in Florida and the Headlock. I wouldn't exactly say Brandon sucks. I can tell you that I have coached Cody Hancock in Florida, NC, etc and he hits it on guys much better than he has faced in SC.
Hanahan has also had a solid number of kids turn out to wrestle freestyle in the off season. Not a big shocker, but the bulk of their hammers have solid experience out of season. What they are unable to get competition-wise in season, they definitely do out of season.
After what they went through last year, they pulled it together and left no doubt this time. They do deserve their props.

3a-West Oak has been putting out good wrestlers for a long time. It was just a matter of time there.

4a-Hillcrest same thing.

Everything goes in cycles. Right now, these are the teams doing the things to win.

I watched both the A and AA finals. I don't understand the criticism of some of the posters. What I saw was a group of young men who fought hard every second they were on the mat. They gave 100%. Win or lose or second string, all of these young men have the courage to step on the mat and take on whoever is put up against them. There will be a time for constructive criticism, but that time is later. Let them savor the moment.

Wow! You pple are unbelievable! How dare you say these kids only won state because it was a "down" or "weak" year. This is why wrestling in SC will never be at the same level as other states...You all know that there are wrestlers who read these posts...All these boys have worked their *sses off all season. They all won fair and square...How about be a little supportive for the teams that won! Mad
